The Archives and Publications Cell at IISc invites applications for the following positions (what follows is just a summary; please click the links for further details about the position, qualifications, pay, recruitment procedure, etc.):

• Editorial Consultant (One position): Duties will include generating written content (feature articles, profiles, research stories, interviews, etc.), working with and editing such content from other writers, and copyediting and proofreading of documents (articles, brochures, and reports) published by APC and the IIScPress.

  Consultant Fee: Rs. 25,000 to 40,000 depending on the qualifications, experience, and suitability of the candidate.

• Trainee Writer (Two positions): Duties will include generating written content (feature articles, profiles, research stories, interviews, etc.), and helping with editing and proofreading of documents published by APC and the IIScPress.

  Consolidated Emoluments will be in the range of Rs. 15,000 to 18,200/- per month depending on qualifications and experience.

Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science: One Hundred Years of Bonding

We are delighted to announce the launch of the exhibition entitled

Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science
One Hundred Years of Bonding

Curated by Ms. Sowmithri Ranganathan of APC, the Exhibition features a display of rare archival photographs, equipment and memorabilia showcasing the evolution and growth of Chemical Sciences at IISc. We are pleased to have been able to run this Exhibition during the Eurasia-13, the 13th Eurasia Conference on Chemical Sciences, which starts on the 14th of December 2014.

The Exhibition is now open at the Reception Hall in the Main Building of the Institute. It is open to the Institute community during 10:a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on all working days between the 12th and 31st of December, 2014.

In this issue of Connect, Maneesh Kunte explores the history of crystallography at the Institute, S. Vijaya tells us about the Centre for Infectious Diseases Research (CIDR), K. Suguna showcases the X-ray Diffraction facility on campus, now faculty introduce themselves, Karthik Ramaswamy tells us about the early stages of planning and construction of the Main Building, and Manu Rajan profiles researchers who have recently won awards. We also feature an interview with the well-known astrophysicist T. Padmanaban from the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), and much more.
